4.1: Apply Learning Theories to Develop Online Content

4.1 Students will apply learning theories to the development of online content, learning experiences, and assessments.

Evidence 1: During the Spring of 2016, I completed EDU-654: Methods for Online Teaching and Learning. Throughout the semester we worked on and learned many different approaches for Online Teaching and Learning. One of the culminating assignments was a group project where my group and myself created a module that included both a synchronous learning experience and an asynchronous learning experience for our fellow classmates. Our group (myself and two other colleagues) were tasked with creating an online instructional module based on our chosen reading. Our group chose to read the Modern Instructor: Keys to Exceptional Online Teaching.

Our group created a module that covered some of the key concepts found in the textbook. We developed announcements for our two week module, activities, resources, digital crossword puzzles. We used a variety of technology resources such as FlipGrid, Padlet, Video Discussion Board, Smore, and Google forms for pre-test and post-test assessments. See below for a couple of screenshots of the modules we created for the online teaching assignment in EDU-654.

The assignment also had a synchronous portion where we developed and facilitated a lecture for students in the class on the various aspects of online teaching in the text we read.
